Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue cooking the butter, swirling occasionally, until it turns golden brown and gives off a nutty aroma (about 5-7 minutes). Be careful not to burn it. Once browned, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and brown butter. Whisk until smooth.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using).
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs. The brownies should be firm but slightly fudgy in the middle.
- Let the brownies cool in the pan before cutting them into squares and serving.
Notes
- These brownies are best served slightly warm for a gooey texture, but they’re delicious at room temperature as well.
- You can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or refrigerate for up to 1 week.
- For extra richness, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
