Churro Poppers

  • Author: Norah
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: About 15 poppers 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Churros Poppers are crispy on the outside, soft and doughy on the inside, and rolled in a sweet cinnamon-sugar coating. These bite-sized churros are the ultimate handheld treat—perfect for parties, snacks, or dipping in your favorite sauces.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup water

  • 2½ tablespoons granulated sugar

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)

For the Cinnamon-Sugar Coating:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Make the cinnamon-sugar coating:
In a bowl, mix together the ½ cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Set aside.

  2. Heat the oil:
Add enough oil to a deep pan or fryer to submerge the poppers (about 2–3 inches deep). Heat to 375°F (190°C).

  3. Prepare the dough:
In a saucepan, bring water, 2½ tablespoons sugar, salt, and vegetable oil to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the flour until it forms a smooth dough ball.

  4. Shape the poppers:
Let the dough cool slightly, then form into small balls about 1 to 1½ inches in diameter.

  5. Fry the poppers:
Carefully drop a few poppers at a time into the hot oil. Fry for 2–3 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed. Drain on paper towels.

  6. Coat and serve:
While still warm, roll each popper in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Serve immediately with optional dipping sauces like chocolate or caramel.

Notes

Keep the oil at a steady temperature to prevent soggy or burnt churros.

You can pipe the dough into mini shapes instead of rolling for a more classic churro look.

For a fun twist, inject with chocolate or dulce de leche after frying.
