Ingredients
For the Bread:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk (whole or 2% works best)
- 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt (for extra moisture)
For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
-
Make the bread batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.
-
In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in batches, alternating with the milk and sour cream. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; don’t overmix.
-
Bake the bread: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Cinnamon Sugar Topping: While the bread is baking, mix together the cinnamon and sugar for the topping in a small bowl.
-
Once the bread is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes in the pan. Turn the bread out onto a cooling rack.
-
Coat the bread: While still warm, brush the melted butter over the top of the bread, then generously sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture all over the bread. Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
- You can substitute Greek yogurt for the sour cream if needed for a slightly tangier flavor.
- This bread can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. It also freezes well for up to a month.
- If you prefer a thicker crust, double the cinnamon sugar topping to coat the sides of the bread as well.
