Description

Sweet, soft Hawaiian rolls transform classic French toast into a fluffy, flavorful breakfast treat. Infused with cinnamon and vanilla, this dish is perfect topped with powdered sugar, fresh berries, whipped cream, and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 to 24 sweet Hawaiian rolls (1 or 2 packages)

  • ¾ cup half and half

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tbsp light brown sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter

  • Powdered sugar, for serving

  • Maple syrup, for serving

  • Fresh berries (optional)

  • Whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together half and half, eggs, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.

  • Slice Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally to create sandwich-style slices.

  • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt butter.

  • Dip each roll half into the egg mixture, coating both sides thoroughly but gently to avoid tearing.

  • Place coated rolls onto the skillet and cook until golden brown on each side, about 2–3 minutes per side.

  • Remove and repeat with remaining rolls, adding more butter as needed.

  • Serve warm topped with powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries, and whipped cream as desired.

Notes

Hawaiian rolls are sweet and soft, so soak briefly to prevent sogginess.

For extra flavor, sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top before serving.

This recipe works great as a French toast casserole—layer in a baking dish and bake for a crowd!
