Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons milk (if needed)
  • Colored sprinkles (optional, for decorating)
  • Icing or royal icing (optional, for decorating)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. If the dough is too dry, add milk one tablespoon at a time until the dough comes together.
  • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thick.
  • Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out the cookies.
  • Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, decorate with icing, sprinkles, or colored sugar for a festive touch.

Notes

  • Feel free to customize your cookies by adding different colored icing or fun shapes like stars or flowers.
  • These cookies store well in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • To make these cookies even more festive, use heart-shaped sprinkles or edible glitter to decorate.
