Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup red and pink M&M’s or heart-shaped sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the semisweet chocolate chips and, if using, the red and pink M&M’s or heart-shaped sprinkles.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
- For a chewier texture, underbake the cookies slightly and let them finish cooking on the baking sheet after removing from the oven.
- To enhance the flavor, consider adding 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon or a pinch of nutmeg to the dry ingredients.
- If you prefer a crispier cookie, bake for an additional 1-2 minutes
