Ingredients
-
1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
-
1/2 lb breakfast sausage (or bacon or ham, if preferred)
-
6 large eggs
-
1/2 cup milk
-
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
-
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese of choice)
-
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional for added flavor)
-
1/4 cup fresh parsley or chives (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
-
Unroll the crescent roll dough and place it evenly in the bottom of the baking dish, pinching the seams together to form a crust.
-
In a skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess grease and set aside.
-
In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until fully combined.
-
Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the crescent roll dough in the baking dish.
-
Pour the egg mixture evenly over the sausage layer.
-
Top with shredded cheddar cheese (and mozzarella if using).
-
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top.
-
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before cutting into squares.
-
Garnish with fresh parsley or chives, if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
-
You can customize this casserole with your favorite ingredients like sautéed vegetables, mushrooms, or other cheeses.
-
For a make-ahead option, assemble the casserole the night before and refrigerate it overnight. Then, bake it in the morning!
-
If you prefer a lighter version, you can use turkey sausage or skip the sausage entirely and add more veggies or ham instead.
-
This casserole can be frozen for up to 3 months. Just reheat in the oven when ready to serve.
