Description

This Hibachi-style steak features tender, bite-sized pieces of steak seared in butter and garlic, enhanced with a simple yet flavorful sauce. The combination of soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and a hint of sesame oil creates a deliciously savory dish that captures the essence of Japanese hibachi cooking right at home.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Steak:

  • 1 lb. boneless steak (like sirloin or fillet), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

For the Sauce:

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce or mirin
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Cook the Steak:

    • Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Add the butter and allow it to melt. Once melted, add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
    • Add the bite-sized steak pieces and cook, stirring occasionally, for 4-6 minutes, or until the steak is cooked to your desired level of doneness.
    • If desired, add sesame oil for an extra layer of flavor.
  • Make the Sauce:

    • In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, teriyaki sauce (or mirin), and a pinch of pepper.
    • Stir well to combine.
  • Combine and Serve:

    • Once the steak is cooked, pour the sauce over the steak in the skillet. Stir to coat the steak pieces evenly in the sauce.
    • Cook for another 1-2 minutes to allow the sauce to warm and slightly thicken.
    • Serve immediately, garnished with green onions or sesame seeds if desired. This dish pairs wonderfully with rice or vegetables.

Notes

  • You can use any boneless steak, but sirloin or fillet work best for this recipe as they’re tender and cook quickly.
  • If you prefer a sweeter sauce, use mirin instead of teriyaki sauce.
  • Adjust the amount of pepper based on your spice preference.
