Description
These sautéed mushrooms are quick, flavorful, and the perfect side dish to complement any meal. With garlic, thyme, and rosemary, they are rich in flavor and finished with a splash of white wine (or broth) and Worcestershire sauce for extra depth.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (divided)
- 1 pound mushrooms, sliced (cremini, button, or a mix)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ teaspoon dried rosemary
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 3 tablespoons white wine or broth (dry white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio is best)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (or soy sauce for vegetarian version)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
-
Cook Mushrooms: Heat 2 tablespoons of oil and 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes until they start to soften.
-
Add Aromatics: Reduce heat to medium and stir in the minced garlic, dried thyme, and dried rosemary. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the garlic is fragrant.
-
Deglaze: Add the white wine (or broth) and cook for another 3-5 minutes, allowing the mushrooms to become tender and most of the liquid to evaporate.
-
Finish: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, followed by the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and stir until the butter is melted, giving the mushrooms a glossy finish.
-
Serve: Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
-
Ingredient Notes:
- Mushrooms: Use cremini, button, or a mix of both for a great variety of flavor.
- Oil & Butter: Combining oil and butter adds flavor while also allowing for proper browning.
- White Wine: A dry white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio works best. You can substitute with broth if you prefer.
- Worcestershire Sauce: For a vegetarian version, swap Worcestershire sauce with soy sauce.
-
Recipe Tips:
- Don’t Overcrowd the Pan: Use a large skillet to avoid steaming the mushrooms.
- Golden Sear: Let the mushrooms sit undisturbed in the pan for a bit to achieve a better sear.
- Season Early: Adding salt early helps draw out moisture. Taste and adjust the seasoning to your preference.
- Fresh Herbs: If using fresh herbs instead of dried, use double the amount.
