  • 3 cups whole milk (must be whole for best texture)

  • 1 cup half-and-half or heavy cream (for extra decadence)

  • 6 ounces dark or bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped (62%–70% cocoa; the darker, the more intense)

  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder or Dutch-process cocoa powder

  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp instant espresso powder or coffee powder (optional, for richer flavor)

  • Pinch of kosher salt

Toppings (optional):

  • Marshmallows

  • Whipped cream

  • Drizzle of caramel

  • Extra chocolate chips


Instructions

  • Add milk, half-and-half (or cream), chopped chocolate, sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, espresso powder (if using), and salt to your crockpot.

  • Stir gently to combine.

  • Cover and cook on low for 2–3 hours, stirring occasionally until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth.

  • Once heated through and creamy, ladle into mugs.

 

  • Add desired toppings and serve immediately.

Notes

Use whole milk for the best creamy texture.

Adjust sugar based on your sweetness preference.

The espresso powder is optional but adds a nice depth to the chocolate flavor.
