- 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
- 12 oz penne pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the penne pasta according to package directions, then drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the heavy cream and chicken broth, and bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Stir in the Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken slightly.
- Add the shredded mozzarella cheese to the sauce and stir until melted and smooth.
- Return the sausage to the skillet and stir to combine.
- Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, toss to coat in the creamy sauce, and heat through for 2 minutes.
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve hot.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, add red pepper flakes or use a spicy smoked sausage.
- You can substitute the mozzarella cheese for another cheese like Parmesan or cheddar for a different flavor.
- If the sauce is too thick, add a little more chicken broth to reach your desired consistency.
